Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ego collects, uses, stores, shares, and otherwise processes information when you use the ego Discord application, website at https://ego.skin, and related features and integrations (collectively, the “Service”).

ego is an independently operated Discord application and software service based in Poland. For information processed in connection with the Service, ego is the operator and, where applicable law uses that term, the controller.

Discord is a third-party platform. ego does not own or operate Discord. Information made available to ego through Discord is subject to Discord's systems, permissions, terms, and privacy practices.

This Privacy Policy applies to both guild-installed and user-installed versions of ego:

• A guild-installed application is added to a Discord server by a server owner or authorized administrator.
• A user-installed application is installed by an individual Discord user for their own use.

Features, information availability, and processing may differ depending on installation type, Discord permissions, feature settings, user actions, and server configuration.

This Privacy Policy applies to information processed by ego in connection with the Service.

It does not govern information handled solely by third-party services, including Discord, Last.fm, AI/model providers, external media services, or other integrations. Those services have their own privacy policies and terms.

The information ego processes depends on the feature you use, the permissions and context Discord makes available, your settings, and any information you choose to provide.

You may provide information when you use the Service, including:

• command inputs and interaction responses;
• reminders, watches, automation settings, and other feature configurations;
• saved personal context, notes, tags, or information you choose to remember;
• AI prompts and content submitted for translation, summarization, explanation, contextual assistance, or other AI-powered requests;
• links, media references, and content submitted to media or embed-related features;
• account-linking information for third-party integrations, such as a Last.fm username; and
• support, feedback, or other communications you send to us.

Where made available by Discord and necessary for a feature, ego may process:

• Discord user IDs;
• guild or server IDs;
• channel IDs;
• role IDs;
• message IDs;
• interaction IDs;
• usernames and display names;
• public Discord profile information;
• avatar and banner metadata;
• server, channel, and role metadata;
• timestamps;
• message references and jump URLs; and
• command, interaction, and feature-preference information.

ego may process this information to identify the relevant user, server, channel, message, or configuration needed to provide a requested feature.

ego does not continuously read every message in every Discord location where it is installed.

Message content, message metadata, attachment metadata, message references, and contextual conversation snippets may be processed only where reasonably necessary for a feature, and only depending on:

• the feature invoked;
• the Discord permissions and context available to ego;
• the user's action;
• the server's configuration; and
• the relevant channel or interaction context.

For example, message-related information may be processed when a user invokes a message context-menu action, requests a recap or missed-message feature, uses a saved-context feature, provides a message to an AI feature, configures an automation that operates on messages, or otherwise requests functionality requiring that information.

ego may allow a user to deliberately save information for later use, such as through a “remember this” or similar personal-context feature.

Saved context may include, depending on what the user chooses to save and the feature's design:

• message content;
• author identifiers;
• message, server, and channel identifiers;
• timestamps;
• attachment metadata; and
• user-created notes or tags.

ego may retrieve this saved context later to provide contextual functionality to the same user, such as recalling information the user previously chose to save. This is a user-directed feature and is not covert tracking.

For music playback and related features, ego may process:

• Discord voice-channel membership or connection state;
• whether a user is connected, deafened, or otherwise in a relevant voice state where necessary for the feature;
• current playback state;
• track metadata;
• requester identity; and
• listening duration or playback activity necessary for Last.fm scrobbling.

ego does not record user microphone audio or voice conversations for the described music functionality. Voice-state metadata is different from recording or storing voice conversations.

If you choose to link and verify a Last.fm account with ego, ego may process:

• your Last.fm username;
• account verification state;
• an authentication or session credential needed to communicate with Last.fm;
• recent tracks;
• top artists;
• top tracks;
• now-playing information; and
• scrobbling-related data.

Authentication or session credentials are treated as sensitive server-side data and are not intended to be publicly displayed.

When a verified user listens through eligible ego music functionality, ego may submit now-playing information and eligible scrobbles to Last.fm on that user's behalf. You may unlink your Last.fm account through available Service controls or by contacting contact@ego.skin.

Some ego features use external AI or model providers. These may include:

• ask;
• contextual assistance;
• translation;
• summarization;
• explanation; and
• other AI-powered transformations.

When you explicitly invoke an AI-powered feature, ego may transmit content reasonably necessary to fulfill your request to an external AI service provider. Depending on the request, this may include your prompt, relevant command input, selected text, message content, contextual snippets, or other information necessary for the requested result.

ego does not send every Discord message to an AI provider. AI-related transmission occurs in connection with an AI feature request or other explicitly invoked AI functionality.

Custom AI instructions, system prompts, behavioral rules, or similar settings may be stored as server or user configuration.

When an AI feature is invoked, applicable custom instructions may be sent to the external AI or model provider together with content reasonably necessary for the request.

These instructions are processed only within the relevant configured context unless a feature explicitly states otherwise.

We may process technical and operational information needed to run, protect, and support the Service, including:

• timestamps;
• command and interaction events;
• feature usage information;
• error reports;
• diagnostic information;
• rate-limit and abuse-prevention signals;
• application performance data;
• log data; and
• identifiers necessary to investigate reliability, security, or support issues.

Some information may be stored temporarily in caches, logs, or diagnostic systems for shorter periods than feature-specific persistent data.

We may use information to:

• provide, operate, maintain, and support the Service;
• respond to commands, interactions, and feature requests;
• provide user-installed and guild-installed application functionality;
• store and retrieve reminders, watches, automations, preferences, configurations, linked accounts, and saved context;
• identify relevant Discord users, servers, channels, messages, and configurations;
• provide music playback, Last.fm integration, and scrobbling;
• process AI requests when a user invokes an AI-powered feature;
• enforce access tiers, entitlements, allowances, and rate limits;
• protect the Service, users, and third parties from fraud, abuse, security incidents, and policy violations;
• investigate errors and resolve support issues;
• comply with legal obligations and enforce these Terms; and
• communicate with users where necessary to provide or support the Service.

We do not sell personal information.

We may share information with service providers that help us operate the Service, such as infrastructure, storage, content delivery, monitoring, analytics, security, and support providers where applicable.

These providers may process information only as necessary to provide services to ego and operate the Service.

ego may communicate information to third-party services when necessary to perform a feature you request or use.

Examples include:

• communicating with Discord to respond to commands, interactions, and application events;
• communicating with Last.fm when you link an account or use now-playing or scrobbling features;
• communicating with external AI/model providers when you invoke an AI-powered feature; and
• communicating with external media or content services when you use a feature that requires those services.

Third-party services process information under their own policies and terms. We encourage you to review the policies of services you choose to connect or use through ego.

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to:

• comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request;
• protect the rights, safety, security, and property of ego, users, Discord, service providers, or the public;
• investigate or prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, or violations of these Terms; or
• establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

If the operation of ego is reorganized, transferred, acquired, or involved in a similar transaction, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

ego uses persistent storage for features that require it. This may include:

• guild configuration;
• user preferences;
• reminders;
• watches;
• automations;
• access or entitlement state;
• linked third-party accounts;
• saved personal or guild context; and
• other feature configuration or records needed to provide the Service.

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the feature, maintain security, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, enforce agreements, or operate the Service.

Retention varies depending on the type of information, the feature involved, user or server settings, operational needs, and legal requirements. Temporary, cached, diagnostic, and log information may be retained for shorter periods.

Removing ego from a Discord server, removing a user-installed application, unlinking an account, or stopping use of a feature may not immediately remove all related information from active systems, logs, or backups. Users may request deletion as described below. We do not promise immediate removal from every backup or system where retention is necessary for security, legal, or operational reasons.

When ego is installed in a Discord server, server owners and authorized administrators may configure features that affect the server, including automations, reminders, watches, message-related functionality, context-related functionality, or other guild-level settings.

Server owners and administrators are responsible for:

• reviewing the permissions granted to ego;
• configuring ego appropriately for their server;
• considering whether and how to notify their members about server-enabled features;
• ensuring their use of ego complies with Discord's rules and applicable law; and
• avoiding configurations that improperly process or disclose personal information.

A server administrator's configuration may affect what ego processes within that server, but only within the permissions, contexts, and feature requirements available through Discord and the Service.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, and disclosure.

Authentication, API, and session credentials used for integrations are treated as sensitive server-side data. However, no system, transmission, or storage method is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

You should protect your Discord account and any connected third-party accounts, and promptly revoke access or unlink accounts if you suspect unauthorized use.

ego and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Such processing is handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction that provides comparable privacy rights, you may have rights, where provided by applicable law, to request:

• access to personal information;
• correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal information;
• deletion of personal information;
• restriction of certain processing;
• objection to certain processing; and
• portability of personal information.

The availability and scope of these rights depend on applicable law and the circumstances of processing. To make a request, contact contact@ego.skin.

ego is not intended for people who do not meet Discord's applicable age requirements or any higher minimum age required by applicable law.

We do not knowingly provide the Service to people who are not permitted to use Discord under Discord's applicable rules. If you believe that a person who does not meet the applicable age requirements has provided personal information to ego, contact contact@ego.skin.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the Service, legal requirements, operational practices, or privacy practices.

The updated policy will be posted at https://ego.skin/privacy with a revised “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after an updated Privacy Policy takes effect is subject to the updated policy.
